One of your tasks as system manager is to use the SYSGEN LOG configurator to establish which system and user events are recorded in log files.

System logging records certain system resource usage information by accounts, groups, and users on a job or session basis. For example you might decide to log failed attempts to enter passwords for the purpose of monitoring system security.

User logging records additions and modifications to databases and other files used in application programs by users and subsystems. You determine the maximum number of logging processes and the maximum number of users per logging process.

In this chapter, you can find the following tasks:

  • entering the LOG configurator

  • using online help

  • showing current information about logging

  • controlling system logging

  • controlling user logging

  • printing a log file
