Use
EDIT/3000 to create and update ASCII files. The Editor commands
allow you to insert, delete, replace, modify, search for, and manipulate
characters, strings of characters, or entire lines of characters.
You can run EDIT/3000 in batch mode or interactively.
In an interactive session, you enter commands and text through
an interactive terminal. Messages and other output (such as prompt
characters) from EDIT/3000 are listed on the terminal.
In batch mode, commands and text are supplied through a batch
input medium such as a jobstream or magnetic tape. Messages and
output are listed on the standard output device, usually a line
printer.
