New features for HP SIM 5.x

  • The GUI is updated with the look and feel of other HP products.

  • First Time Wizard provides step-by-step, online guidance for performing the initial configuration of HP SIM and helps configure HP SIM settings on the CMS.

  • New tree view is available for system and cluster collections.

  • Lists and folders are now called collections.

  • View a consolidated list of all server and storage events from a single event viewer and configure automated actions.

  • Java™ Runtime Environment (JRE) is no longer required to be installed in the browser.

  • Discover storage systems through their installed SMI-S providers. See http://www.hp.com/go/hpsim/providers for information about the supported devices and SMI-S providers.

  • Access to discovery options, which include a Discovery page with tabs for Automatic, Manual, and Hosts Files configuration, has improved.

  • Create, edit, and delete discovery tasks.

  • Reports are now available in XML format.

  • The report engine has been improved and there are new default reports.

  • Flexible role-based security allows you to choose which administrators have access to server and storage details.

  • Launch server and storage element managers from a single system viewer.

  • View storage array capacity details, including unallocated space, RAID overhead, usable bytes assigned to ports, and usable bytes not assigned to ports.

  • Assign privileges to operating system user groups to give these users access to HP SIM without creating each individual user.

  • New CLI commands, including mxreport, mxcert, mxglobalprotocolsettings, mxglobalsettings, mxcollection, mxgetdbinfo, and mxgethostname.

  • Create new command line tools, including copying a file, removing a tool, and creating command line, web launch, and X Window tools on HP-UX and Linux systems.

  • Set system properties for multiple systems at the same time.

  • Suspend or resume monitoring of multiple systems at the same time.

  • HP SIM supports the use of an Oracle database (locally or remotely) for Windows, HP-UX, and Linux.

  • Support for Configure or Repair agents tool now includes HP-UX, Linux and Windows operating systems.

  • Support for HP BladeSystem c-Class blade, enclosure and onboard administrator support.
