The upgrade process is not reversible. To revert to a previous installation of the software, you must restore the previous CMS configuration as well as any remote databases used by the software. Therefore, HP recommends that you make a backup of your current installation before upgrading the software.

Procedure 2-7 Backing Up Your HP Insight Dynamics – VSE CMS Configuration

To make a complete backup of your HP Insight Dynamics - VSE configuration, perform the following steps:

  1. Back up the remote database tables. If you are using a local database instance, skip this step.

This step only applies if you are using a remote database. To back up the remote database, use the following steps:

    1. Stop the following services — if they are currently running — in the order listed:

      1. HP Insight Orchestration

      2. HP Logical Server Automation

      3. HP Application Discovery

      4. HP Global Workload Manager Central Management Server

      5. HP Virtual Machine Management Service

      6. HP Systems Insight Manager

    2. Back up the remote databases listed below. If your CMS is using Microsoft SQL Server, perform the backup using SQL Server Management Studio. If you are using Microsoft SQL Server Express, perform the backup using SQL Server Management Studio Express. If you are using Oracle, perform the backup using Oracle Enterprise Manager or Oracle Recovery Manager. The following databases should be backed up if present:

      • gwlm (used by multiple Insight Dynamics - VSE applications)

      • hpio (HP Insight Orchestration)

      • oo (HP Operations Orchestration)

      • hpvmmsqldb (Virtual Machine Management Pack)

      • Insight_v* (HP SIM — the database name begins with “Insight_v”, followed by a version number)

    3. Back up any remote database tables used by other SIM applications, if necessary. Other HP SIM applications may have their own specific backup requirements. See the documentation for those applications for specific instructions.

  2. Make a full backup of the CMS. You must use backup software that preserves file permissions. Performing a full backup of the server may require stopping additional system services, so that all files can be read in a stable condition. Consult your backup software documentation for specific requirements.

Procedure 2-8 Restoring Your CMS Configuration From Backup

If you need to restore the CMS configuration that was saved using the preceding procedure, use the following sequence:

  1. Restore the server files from the full backup.

  2. Restore the remote database tables.

  3. Restart the server.
