With the December 2002 release of HP-UX 11i, you can choose to either cold-install or update from either CD-ROM or DVD media. Digital Versatile Disks (DVD) provide you with several benefits compared to CD-ROM:

  • fewer disks containing all of the data needed to install or update to HP-UX 11i

  • no disks to shuffle during installation - all of the core HP-UX 11i operating system software is contained on one DVD

  • fewer installation steps

  • shortened installation times

How is the New DVD Packaging Organized?

Because DVDs can hold significantly more data (over 4GB vs. 650MB for CD-ROM), the HP-UX 11i operating environment, and all of the HP-UX 11i applications have been optimized to fit on 1 DVD each. Figure 2-1 “Comparison of CD-ROM and DVD Packaging” shows you the differences between CD-ROM and DVD packaging:
