Now that you have installed or updated to HP-UX 11i v1, and installed any additional software and patches, your next task is to configure your system. Many of these tasks can be found in Managing Systems and Workgroups: A Guide for HP-UX System Administrators. The following list breaks these tasks in to several categories to assist you in finding the information you need:

  • Networking and Connectivity. 

    • Manually setting system information: you can use the set_parms command to configure your system's hostname, IP Address, DNS and other network and system data. For more information about set_parms, see the "Making Adjustments" topic in Chapter 3, "Configuring a System" of the Managing Systems and Workgroups: A Guide for HP-UX System Administrators book, or the set_parms(1M) manpage.

    • Configuring Built-in PCI Networking: depending on the type of network interface your system has, see the following documents on http://docs.hp.com:

      • Ethernet (10/100Base-TX): Using PCI 10/100Base-TX/9000

      • Gigabit Ethernet: Using PCI 1000Base-T and HSC/PCI 1000Base-SX (Gigabit Ethernet)

    • Configuring LAN: If you plan to manage a local area network, see Installing and Administering LAN/9000 Software on http://docs.hp.com.

  • File System Administration. 

    • Setting Up File Systems: Depending on how you want to manage your physical volumes, choose one of the following:

      • LVM: "Administering a System: Managing Disks and Files" in the Managing Systems and Workgroups: A Guide for HP-UX System Administrators on http://docs.hp.com.

      • VxVM: VERITAS Volume Manager 3.5 Administrator's Guide on the Instant Information CD.

    • Network File Systems (NFS): If you want make local directories available to other hosts on the network, please read Installing and Administering NFS Services on http://docs.hp.com

  • Managing Users and Groups.
