IPCNAME

Associates a name with a call socket descriptor.

Syntax

IPCNAME  (calldesc,socketname,nlen,result)

Parameters

calldesc (input): 32-bit integer, by value. The call socket descriptor to be named.
socketname (input/output): Character array, by reference. The name (maximum of 16 characters) to be assigned to the socket. If the nlen (name length) parameter is zero, an 8-character name is randomly assigned and returned in the givename parameter. If the name is supplied by the user, it must be no longer than 16 characters.
nlen (input): 32-bit integer, by value. The length in bytes of the specified socket name. Maximum is 16.
result (output): 32-bit integer, by reference. The error code returned; zero if no error.

Description

The IPCNAME intrinsic allows a user to bind a name to a call socket. Using the IPCLOOKUP intrinsic, another process can obtain access to the socket by means of its name. A single call socket on an HP 3000 can have a maximum of 4 names. VC sockets cannot be named. If the specified name length is zero, an 8-character name will be randomly generated and returned in the socketname parameter. When the socket is destroyed, the name will be removed from the socket registry.

All parameters are required. Condition codes returned by this intrinsic are:

CCE — Succeeded.
CCL — Failed.
CCG — Not returned by this intrinsic.

This intrinsic cannot be called in split stack mode.
