Whether the application is remote or local to the HP OpenCall SS7 Stack, it communicates with the SS7 stack via connections. These connections represent service access points.

Creating SS7 Stack Connections

Before you can exchange data with the SS7 network, the application must request a connection to be created between the application and an HP OpenCall SS7 stack. This connection should be tested by the application. In case of a receive failure, the application must close the connection to release all associated resources. After the connection is closed, the application can reconnect.

NOTE: Unclosed connections can consume a significant amount of API resources. It is important for the application to close failed connections.

className

In an HA configuration, a connection automatically connects the application to the active SS7 stack known using the generic stack name, className. In the case of stack failure, traffic is redirected from the failed stack to the standby stack.

Connection Identifier

When an HP OpenCall SS7 API has created a connection between the application and an SS7 stack, a connection identifier is returned. This identifier must be used by the application for all subsequent operations regarding this connection.
