Via its API and probe objects, the HP OpenCall SS7 ISUP library allows the application to access each SS7 stack using one of the following access modes:

  • State-machine access mode

  • Bypass access mode

Access mode is selected when the application requests the API to create a probe object on its behalf.

State-machine Mode

The state-machine access mode enables the application to benefit from the state-machines and timers provided by HP OpenCall SS7 ISUP. The protocol behavior of HP OpenCall SS7 ISUP is dependent on the state-machines implemented for each software version (ANSI based or ITU-T based).

Bypass Mode

In this access mode, the application can bypass the provided state-machines and timers, and directly interface with the ISUP Signaling Procedure Control (SPRC) functional block.

This mode of access is recommended if you are developing a gateway application or an application not requiring interaction with the state-machines.

If a customer has an existing application that implements the ISUP state-machines, and the customer wants to use this application instead of the HP OpenCall SS7 ISUP state-machines, then the Bypass Mode is the appropriate mode.
