How PPPoE Works

Figure 1-1 “PPPoE Framework” depicts how PPPoE enables you to connect to the Internet via a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL).

DSL providers use PPPoE to provide faster access to the Internet via an Ethernet line. PPPoE eliminates the need for a serial line to connect users. It authenticates the users and analyzes the volume of network traffic each user generates.
