This section identifies the hardware and software requirements and recommendations for HP Systems Insight Manager. These requirements are broken into sections by system type for the CMS, managed system, and network client.

CMS Requirements

This section contains the requirements for the CMS. These requirements are sorted by operating system. Review the section of requirements that applies to your CMS. Refer to:

HP-UX Central Management Server

  • Operating System

    • HP-UX 11i v1

    • HP-UX 11i v2

    • HP-UX 11i v2 update 2

    Note: The required patches must be installed for each of these operating systems. Refer to the HP Systems Insight Manager Release Notes for details.

  • Hardware

    • Any HP system with a PA-RISC 2.0 processor

      • Minimum: A-class system with 1 GB RAM

      • Recommended: rp3410 or higher with 1 GB RAM

    • Any HP Intel Itanium-based system with 2 GB RAM

  • Software

    • PostgreSQL 7.4.2 for HP-UX 11i v1

    • PostgreSQL 7.4.2 for HP-UX 11i v2

    • PostgreSQL 7.4.2 for HP-UX 11i v2 update 2

    • OpenSSH

    • WBEM providers installed and active for HP-UX 11i or greater

  • Free Disk Space

    • 256 MB for the CMS and DTF agent (/opt)

    • 500 MB minimum recommended for data (/var/opt)

  • Swap Space

    • 2 GB minimum total swap space for PA-RISC systems

    • 3 GB minimum total swap space for Intel® Itanium®-based systems

  • Networking

    • Static or dynamic host name resolution

Linux Central Management Server

  • Operating System

    • Red Hat Enterprise AS Linux 2.1, Update 4

    • Red Hat Enterprise ES Linux 2.1, Update 4

    • Red Hat Enterprise AS Linux 3, Update 3

      • Minimum: 1.5-GHz processor and 768 MB RAM

      • Recommended: 2.4-GHz processor and 1 GB RAM

    • For Red Hat 2.1 AS/ES Update 4

      • PostgreSQL 7.4-0.3

      Note: Japanese fully localized.

    Note: The required Windows Service Packs must be installed for each of these operating systems. Refer to the HP Systems Insight Manager Release Notes for details.

    Note: The Windows server must have at least one partition formatted for the NT File System (NTFS) on which the HP Systems Insight Manager server software is to be installed. NTFS provides the ability to restrict file access based on user accounts and groups. Without NTFS, the CMS cannot be adequately secured against unauthorized access, and potentially sensitive operations and data could be made available to unauthorized users.

  • Hardware

    • Any HP ProLiant IA-32 system with:

      • Minimum: 1.5-GHz processor with 768 MB RAM

      • Recommended: 2.4-GHz processor with 1 GB RAM

    Note: HP Netserver platforms can be used for the CMS as long as the Instant Toptools software is not installed and all other requirements are met.

  • Software

    • MSDE 2000 with Service Pack 3 (bundled with HP Systems Insight Manager), or you can use one of the following:

      • Microsoft SQL 2000, Standard Edition with Service Pack 3 (for Standard Server operating system)

      • Microsoft SQL 2000, Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 3 (for "Advanced Server" operating system)

      Note: Windows XP Professional is not supported with a local installation SQL 2000, only MSDE 2000. SQL 2000 can be used as a remote database for a CMS on Windows XP Professional.

    • ProLiant Support Pack for Windows 6.30 or later

    • WMI Mapper 2.0

    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0

  • Free Disk Space

    • 500 MB recommended

  • Networking

    • Static or dynamic host name resolution

    • TCP/IP

      Note: Operating systems with only IPX enabled will not be identified by an HP-UX or Linux CMS.

    • SNMP (recommended)

    Note: This software is not required, but if you want improved management capabilities, HP recommends that you install these components.

      • SNMP (recommended as an alternative to WBEM)

Network Client Requirements and Recommendations

This section contains requirements and recommendations for managed systems used as clients accessing the CMS.

  • Required Web Browsers

    • For HP-UX:

      • Mozilla 1.4 or later supplied by HP with Java™ Runtime Environment (JRE) browser plug-in 1.4.1_05 or later

        Refer to the following note about the required security options.

    • For Linux:

      • Mozilla 1.6 or later with JRE browser plug-in 1.4.2_03 or later

        Refer to the following notes about the required security options and the Java plug-in registration.

        NOTE: The default Mozilla 1.6 profile uses a cookie policy that does not work with HP Systems Insight Manager's Java applets. You must configure Mozilla to accept cookies, by selecting Edit->Preferences, expand Privacy & Security->Cookies->Enable all cookies. Click OK to save the changes.

        Note: If you do not want to enable all cookies, you can select Enable cookies for the originating website only instead.

        SUSE 9 has a different method than other Linux distributions, for adding JRE plugin. For SUSE 9, to add the JRE plugin to Mozilla 1.6, after the plugin has been downloaded, you must do the following: change to the Mozilla bin directory cd /opt/mozilla/bin and execute the following script, which will locate and add the plugin ./plugins.sh

    • For Windows:

      • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later with JRE browser plug-in 1.4.2.03 or later

        Refer to the following note about the required security options.

      Note: For all browsers, you must have the following browser security options enabled for HP Systems Insight Manager to work properly:

      • SSL 3.0 or TLS 1.0

      • Allow cookies

        • For Internet Explorer, first-party cookies must be accepted

        • For Mozilla, enable all cookies or enable cookies for the originating website only

      • Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins (Internet Explorer only)

      • Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting (Internet Explorer only)

      • Active scripting (Internet Explorer only)

      Note: To use Mozilla on Linux, you must register the Java plug-in. At a command prompt, execute the following commands:

      cd /usr/local/mozilla/plugins

      If the libjavaplugin_oji.so file already exists in this directory, rename it by executing the following command:

      mv libjavaplugin_oji.so libjavaplugin_oji.so.bak

      Change the Java version that exists in the /usr/java path by executing the following command:

      ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_03/plugin/ \ i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so

  • Recommended Software

    Note: This software is not required, but if you want improved HP Systems Insight Manager capabilities, HP recommends that you install these components, which can be purchased or downloaded from many software suppliers.
