Table A-1 provides a list of tasks performed during a new installation. Use this checklist to ensure you complete all installation and configuration tasks in the correct order. Perform all tasks on the head node unless otherwise noted.

Preparing for the Installation
  1. Read related documents, especially the HP XC System Software Release Notes.

 
  1. Back up user data and accounts on systems installed with an older version of the HP XC System Software.

 
  1. Prepare the hardware according to the instructions in the HP XC Hardware Preparation Guide.

 
  1. Verify firmware versions, especially the firmware on the console management devices (iLO, LO-100i, or MP).

 
  1. Arrange for IP address assignments and external host names with your site network administrator.

 
  1. Have the license key file ready.

 
  1. Purchase and license additional required software from third-party vendors.

 
Installing Software on the Head Node
  1. Gather information that is needed during the installation process.

 
  1. Boot from the DVD to start the installation process.

 
  1. Install additional RPMs from the HP XC DVD (optional).

 
  1. Install additional third-party software (optional).

 
Configuring and Imaging the System
  1. Gather information that is needed during the installation process.

 
  1. Change the default address base for the HP XC internal networks (optional).

 
  1. Run the cluster_prep command to prepare your system.

 
  1. Run the discover command to discover network components.

 
  1. Define and set up the system environment before the golden image is created:

    • Install software patches if available.

    • Put the XC.lic license key file in the /opt/hptc/etc/license directory.

    • Configure interconnect switch line monitoring cards (required).

    • Configure sendmail (required).

    • Make and mount the /hptc_cluster file system if it is not located on a partition on the system disk (optional).

    • Create user accounts (optional).

    • Override user and group IDs (optional).

    • Customize client node disk partitions (optional).

 
  1. Run the cluster_config command to configure the system and create the golden image.

 
  1. Respond to requests by the cluster_config command.

 
  1. Modify the SLURM configuration file (optional).

 
  1. Start the system and propagate the golden image to all client nodes.

 
  1. Start the Load Sharing Facility (LSF).

 
Verifying the System
  1. Run the operation verification program (OVP).

 
  1. Create a baseline of the system configuration database for future use.

 
  1. Run the sys_check utility.

 
Optional Configuration Tasks
  1. Configure SAN storage devices.
