Naming Conventions Used in This Document

Table 1-2 lists the naming conventions and sample IP addresses used in this document. You are free to select your own names.

Table 1-2 Naming Conventions

System host name (also known as the cluster alias or Linux Virtual Server (LVS) alias)	`penguin`
Head node host name	`n16` (`n[maximum number of nodes]`)
Head node alias	`nh`
Host names of nodes with connections to the external network through an Ethernet port	`penguin1`, `penguin2`, `penguin3`, and so on
Node name prefix	Internal node names are assigned using the default node naming prefix, the letter `n`
Fully qualified domain name	`southpole.com`
External IP address of the system	`192.0.2.0`
External IP address of the head node	`192.0.2.1`
IP addresses of nodes with connections to an external network	`192.0.2.3`, `192.0.2.4`, `192.0.2.5`, and so on.

To reduce the size of screen displays and command output, a three- or six-node system is shown in most examples in this document.
