Installation Settings Menu installation settings (text-based installation)

The Installation Settings menu is the basic menu for specifying settings such as keyboard layout, partitioning, and sofware packages. For more settings controls, select Expert. This displays the Expert menu (Figure 2-4).

  1. If you want, you can modify other settings, such as keyboard layout and mouse.

  2. To specify the software packages to be installed, select Software.

    For installation of software packages, SLES 10 provides Filter—>Patterns so that you can select the packages by categories based on the intended use of the system, such as server base, minimum, web server, workstation, and so on.

    YaST then presents a list of software packages from which you can choose (Figure 2-5).

  3. Select the packages to be installed, then select Accept.

    The package selection is updated.

  4. From the Installation Settings menu, select Partitioning.

    You can accept the default partitioning recommended by YaST, or you can modify the partitioning as desired. Then select Accept.

  5. If you using the Expert menu, you can modify additional settings, such as Booting, Add-On Products, and Default Runlevel.

  6. After choosing all installation settings, select Accept.

    YaST reports the status of the installation as it proceeds (Figure 2-6).

    After the installation is complete, the system reboots automatically.
