Follow this generic procedure to establish a connection to a server using a serial port connection to a console port. If you need more information about how to establish these connections, see the hardware documentation.

  1. Connect a null modem cable between the serial port on the rear panel of the server and a COM port on the host computer.

  2. Verify that the serial port is configured to Shared.

  3. Launch a terminal emulation program such as Windows HyperTerminal.

  4. Enter a name for the connection, select an icon, and click OK.

  5. Select the COM port on the host computer to which the serial cable is connected, and click OK.

  6. Make the following port settings:

    1. Bits per second: 115200

    2. Data bits: 8

    3. Parity: None

    4. Stop bits: 1

    5. Flow control: None

  7. Click OK.
