Adding Principals to the Database

When you add a principal, you must specify the following information:

  • Principal and ticket information, located in the General tab.

  • Password and password expiration information, located in the Password tab.

  • Other principal attributes, located in the Attributes Tab

The Group Settings option controls the default values in all the tabs in the Principal Information window. Choose Principal Information>Edit>Load Default values to reload default at any time, while working on principal. For more information, see “Loading Default Values for a Principal”.

To add a new principal, complete the following steps:

  1. In the HP Kerberos Administrator window, select the Realm in which you want to add a new principal.

  2. Click New to display the Principal Information window as shown in Figure 8-2 “Principal Information Window”.

  3. In the General tab, enter the Principal name and the Ticket Information.

  4. Click Apply in the General Tab. The Change Password window displays as shown in Figure 8-3 “Change Password Window”.

  5. Enter the new password in the Change Password window and click OK.

  6. In the Password tab, enter the Password Information and the Key and Salt Types.

    You cannot use the Change Password button in the Password tab because the Change Password button is disabled when you create a new principal. For more information, see “Changing Password Information”.

  7. In the Attributes tab, select the required principal attributes. For more information, see “Changing Principal Attributes”.

  8. Click OK in the Principal Information window.

The List of Principals in the HP Kerberos Administrator window is not automatically refreshed after you add a principal. The database contains the principal, but you need to click List All or Search to view the principal in List of Principals.

Adding Multiple Principals with Similar Settings

To simultaneously add multiple principals with the same setting, complete the following steps:

  1. In the HP Kerberos Administrator window, select the Realm in which you want to add multiple principals.

  2. Click New to display the Principal Information window as shown in Figure 8-2 “Principal Information Window”.

  3. Enter the first principal name in the Principal Information window.

  4. Select the targeted settings for the principal in the General, Password, and Attribute tabs of the Principal Information window.

  5. Click Apply to display the Change Password window.

  6. Enter the initial password for the new principal and click OK.

    The new principal entry is saved in the principal database and the Principal Information window is still open

  7. Enter another principal name in the Principal Information window, and repeat the steps 5 through 7 until you finish adding all the prinicpals.

  8. When you have added all the new principals with the common attributes, click OK or Cancel to close the Principal Information window.
