The kadmin_ui utility is the GUI-based Kerberos remote administrative utility that runs on the secondary security servers and clients.

Principals with administrative privileges use the remote administrator to maintain the database on the primary security server from their local workstation.

You can use kadmin_ui to accomplish the following tasks:

  • Add, modify, specify, or delete principals.

  • Search for a principal.

  • List administration permissions.

  • Extract service principal information to the service key table.

  • Add, modify, specify, or delete realms.

  • Edit the Default Group.

  • Manage admin_acl_file.

You must have a principal with administrative privileges to use the kadmin_ui utility. The functionality of the kadmin_ui is identical to that of kadminl_ui. See “Local Administrator - kadminl_ui” for more information on how to administer the Kerberos database locally.

The following steps describe how to remotely administer the Kerberos database using the kadmin_ui window:

  1. Execute the following command at the HP-UX prompt:

    # /opt/krb5/kadminl_ui

The logon screen displays as shown in Figure 8-14 “Logon Screen”.

  2. Enter your principal name and password in the logon screen.

  3. Click OK to display the change password window as shown in Figure 8-15 “Change Password Screen”.

  4. Enter a new password in the change password screen to change your password, and click OK.

NOTE: This screen is displayed only when you first log on using the remote administrator.

To access the database using the remote administrator, you must have the appropriate administrative permissions. The warming message, shown in Figure 8-16 “Warning Message”, displays if you do not have administrative privileges.

The graphical user interface for the remote administrator is similar to that for the local administrator. For more information on using the remote administrator, kadmin_ui, and administering your Kerberos server, see “Local Administrator - kadminl_ui”.
