You Have to Login as root

You must be logged in as root to perform a hardware scan, reinstall device files, or any OL* tasks on slots. For viewing peripheral device, you can log in as any user. The login screen is presented whenever you access the Peripheral Device Tool (pdweb) GUI via a Web browser and is not required if accessing the tool through SAM or SCM.

A Peripheral Device Tool GUI session automatically times out after approximately 20 minutes of inactivity and this is not configurable within pdweb. If you are logged off, you can log back into pdweb and you are returned to the action you attempted at the time you were logged off if possible. Changes made during the previous session are not lost.

NOTE: Ensure that the cookies are enabled in your browser (Mozilla, Netscape, or Microsoft Internet Explorer) for the pdweb tool (GUI mode) to run. In case the cookies are not enabled in your browser, an error message is displayed.

Logging In

Access the Peripheral Device Tool GUI from any host system on the network using any supported Web browser connected to the intranet.

To log on to the Peripheral Device Tool GUI:

  1. Open a Web browser on any network client that is connected to your company intranet and has the pdweb server running, see “Starting the pdweb Server”.

  2. Access the log on screen by navigating to https://hostname:1188/pd/pd.cgi where hostname is the hostname of your host system.

The HP SAM WEB login screen is presented:

  3. Enter a user name that is valid on the system in the User Name field.

NOTE: If you want to do more than view a list of system devices, you must log in as root.
  4. Enter the appropriate password.

  5. Click [Secure Log On].

If the user name and password authenticate on the server, the Peripheral Device Tool is displayed otherwise the login page is re-presented.

In addition, should you make an error when entering your user name or password information you can clear the User Name and Password fields by clicking the [Clear] button.

TIP: It is recommended that you do not use the [Back] button of your browser as unexpected results can occur.

Logging Off

Log off from the Peripheral Device Tool GUI when your work is complete. This prevents someone from accessing your active session and avoids a potential breach in security.

NOTE:
Session Timeout

The Peripheral Device Tool GUI session will time out if you do not keep it active. A pop-up message appears to alert you that you are about to be logged off. To return to the tool, click [OK].

Be sure to keep the session active by using the controls within the tool and/or the [Refresh] button in your browser.

To log out of the session:

  1. Click [Log off] in the right-hand side of the banner.

The HP SAM WEB login screen is presented.

  2. Close your Web browser unless you accessed the Peripheral Device Tool from SCM.
