Table 1-1: Labeling Syntax for Cable Origins
Syntax Element Definition
C Cabinet (rack) or Compute Building Block (CBB).
E Server blade enclosure; you can have up to 4 enclosures per cabinet.
IMB Interconnect Module Bay.
P Gigabit Ethernet port.
n An integer in the range 0–99 that identifies a specific element, such as a leaf interconnect (PCL13) or port (P22).

A typical cable origin address is C01-E1-IMB2-P1 (cabinet 1, enclosure 1, module bay 2, port 1).
On mezzanine 1 of a server blade enclosure, there are two interconnect module bays (IMB), utilized as follows:
• IMB1 is used for the administrative network. It and contains NIC1 (and also NIC3).
• IMB2 is used for the designated gigabit Ethernet interconnect. It contains NIC2 (and also
NIC4).
