2.4 Interconnect Management Network Switches
You can administer a cluster interconnect by using an Ethernet connection to a network interface that is located on the interconnect chassis, or on a controller card installed in the interconnect chassis. The module where the port is located varies depending on the type of interconnect, and it is referred to by using the generic term controller (CTRL). The types of interconnect are grouped as follows: Back
·   Interconnects with a controller card in each chassis. TOC
The Myrinet and Quadrics interconnect chassis port identifiers share the same port ID syntax. The "Q" (Quadrics) identifier is replaced with an "M" (Myrinet). The following interconnect chassis components provide the Ethernet port:
–   Myrinet: Monitoring line card
–  Quadrics QsNetI::: Controller/Clock card
·   For the InfiniBand interconnect, only two of the interconnects are connected to the cluster’s interconnect management Ethernet network (no matter how many interconnect chassis are in the cluster). InfiniBand interconnects contain a Switch Management Board (SMB) that you use to configure and communicate with all the other interconnect chassis via the InfiniBand high-speed data network. (Additional SMBs might be installed to provide connection redundancy in the event of a primary SMB failure.) For InfiniBand solutions, port 11 (normally reserved) of the administrative Ethernet root switch is available for the backup switch IP connection (use port 11 on the Console Ethernet switch for Scali configurations).
The following sections describe the port ID syntax and provide cabling tables for the interconnects.
Interconnect Network Port ID Syntax
Some elements of the port ID syntax are not used in current configurations of HP Cluster Platform and are intended to support modular components to be implemented in future. For example, an element is provided for module (Mx), however none of the devices used at the present time has a modular structure, and thus M1 is used for all devices.
The port ID syntaxes depend on the type of interconnect, as follows:
Quadrics QsNetII and Myrinet
The syntax for Quadrics QsNetII and Myrinet interconnect network ports (Ethernet connections) is as follows:
[Q/M]|Rx|Nxx/Txx|-CTRL-A-10/100
The character x indicates an integer, while the forward slash (/) indicates that only one of the optional elements is used. Following are some examples of an interconnect port identifier:
QR0N00-CTRL-A-10/100 or MR0T03-CTRL-A-10/100
Quadrics and Myrinet Interconnect Port Identifiers
Each element in the identifier string is defined in Table 2-2.
See the HP Cluster Platform Overviewand HP Cluster Platform Site Preparation Guidedocuments for definitions of the terminology used in this table.
InfiniBand
The syntax for InfiniBand interconnect network ports (Ethernet connections) is as follows:
IRx|S/Lxx-CTRL-A-10/100
The character x indicates an integer, while the forward slash (/) indicates that only one of the optional elements is used. An example of an interconnect port identifier follows:
IR0L02-CTRL-A10/100
InfiniBand Interconnect Port Identifiers
Each element in the identifier string is defined in Table 2-3.
See the HP Cluster Platform Overviewand Site Preparation Guide for definitions of the terminology used in this table.
