For each server, note the location of the COA label on the server and record the product key for future reference. The COA label is used to perform the following tasks:

  • Upgrade the factory-installed operating system using the Microsoft Upgrade program for license validation.

  • Reinstall the operating system because of a failure that has permanently disabled it.

The COA label location varies by server model. On rack-mounted server models, the COA label is located either on the front section of the right panel or on the right front corner of the top panel.

CAUTION: HP Cluster Platform and HP Cluster Platform Express clusters contain server-specific cable management components which require specific procedures for extending servers from a rack. Failure to follow these procedures can lead to cable damage. See your cluster's hardware documentation for more information.

Make a note of each product key when the servers are initially installed and the COA labels are most easily accessible. All ProLiant servers use the same product key for HPCS.
