The Quadrics switch controller card provides access to Quadrics switch control functions through an Ethernet connection. The controller card runs a process that collects configuration and status information from the switch.

Table D-1 and Table D-2 provide the switch names and associated IP addresses you need for the configuration procedure. The IP addresses for the switch monitoring line cards is based on the swBase address in the base_addr.ini file. The default address base for the switch monitoring line cards is 172.20.66, but if you modified the swBase value, the address base for the switch monitoring line cards must change accordingly.

Follow this procedure to configure network access to the Quadrics switch controller card:

NOTE: For more information about configuring the Quadrics switch controller card, see the HP Cluster Platform Quadrics QsNetII Interconnect reference guide, which is available on the hardware documentation CD. Your cluster platform customer letter provides instructions for loading the documentation CD and accessing the documentation through the online guide.
  1. Ensure that an Ethernet cable from the monitoring line card's primary Ethernet port is connected to an Ethernet port on the Root Administration Switch. This connection is described in the HP XC Hardware Preparation Guide.

  2. Connect to the switch controller using a VGA monitor and keyboard or a connection to the serial port using a null modem cable and a terminal or terminal emulation program such as HyperTerminal. Connecting to the switch controller displays the Quadrics Switch Control main menu, which is similar to the following:

    Quadrics Switch Control -- (QR0N00)

    1. Show network settings
    2. Change network settings
    3. Run jtest
    4. Set module mode
    5. Firmware upgrade
    6. Quit
    7. Reboot
    8. Access Settings
    9. Self Test

     Enter 1-9 and press return:
  3. Enter 2 to access the Change network settings menu option and set the switch to STATIC IP addresses:

    Quadrics Switch Control

     Select Protocol

     1. BOOTP
     2. STATIC
     3. Abort

    Enter 1,2,3 and press return [2]: 2
    Setting to STATIC
    Enter rail: 0
Enter type (N for Node, S for Supertop, T for Top) (q to abort): N
    Enter location (0-127) (q to abort): 0
Setting switch name to default: QR0N00
    Setting IP address by switchname
Enter IP address [default 172.20.66.1] q to abort: Enter
Enter netmask address [default 255.255.0.0] q to abort: your_netmask
Enter gateway address [default 172.20.0.254], q to abort: Enter
Enter TFTP/RIS server IP address [default 172.20.0.254] q to abort: Enter
Enter TFTP upgrade filename [default 503-upgrade.tar] (q to abort): Enter
Setting upgrade filename to default: 503-upgrade.tar

    Network Setup complete.
NOTE: REBOOT required for settings to take effect Press return to return
    to main menu
  4. Click Show network settingsto obtain the line card MAC address. Write down this address for use later in this procedure.

  5. Click Access Settings and click Password settings to set a login password for the switch.

  6. Click Access settings and click Access protocol settings option to enable the ssh command.

  7. Reboot the switch controller from the Reboot menu.

  8. Log in as the root user on the head node.

  9. Use the text editor of your choice to open the /etc/hosts file and add an entry for each switch, using the data in Table D-2 as a reference. For example, if you have one switch, the entry is similar to the following:

    172.20.66.1 QR0N00

Make your entries above the following line in the file because any entries that follow this line will be deleted if you reconfigure the system:

#XC-CLUSTER Do Not Edit Below this Line
  10. Save the changes to the file and exit the text editor.

  11. Repeat this entire procedure for each switch controller card, modifying the switch name and switch address using the data in Table D-2 as a reference.

After completing this procedure, you can access the switch controller cards using either the switch name or IP address:

# ssh QR0N00 -l quadrics

When the connection is established, use the Quadrics login password you set in step 5 to log in to the switch controller.
