Configuring an Ethernet Connection

You must add an external Ethernet network connection to any node that is assigned with the nis_server or the external role.

Follow this procedure to add, change, or delete an Ethernet connection on any node:

  1. From the command-line menu of the cluster_config utility, enter the letter m :

    [L]ist Nodes, [M]odify Nodes, [A]nalyze, [H]elp, [P]roceed, [Q]uit: m
  2. Supply the node name of the node you want to modify. All operations you perform from this point are performed on this node until you specify a different node name.

    Please enter node name or [C]ancel: n15
    
    Current Node: n15
  3. At the following prompt, enter the letter e:

    [E]xternal Network Configuration, [R]oles, [H]elp, [B]ack: e
  4. To add a network Ethernet connection to a node to connect the node directly to the public network, enter the letter e again and, when prompted, supply the required information:

    [E]dit Network Settings, [D]elete Network Settings, [H]elp, [B]ack: e
    
    Hostname []: penguin2.southpole.com
    IP address []: 192.0.2.4
    Netmask [255.255.252.0]: 255.255.255.0
    You have the option to provide an IPv6 address for
    the external Ethernet connection.
    You can enter an IPv6 address, enter '[]' to delete the value shown,
    or press the Enter key to accept the value shown.
    IPv6 address (optional) []:
    Gateway IP address [ ]: 192.0.2.51
    You have the option to override the system default MTU value.
    You can enter 9000 to enable jumbo frames,
    enter '[]' to delete the value shown and use the system default,
    or press the Enter key to accept the value shown.
    MTU value (optional) []:
    
    [E]dit Network Settings, [D]elete Network Settings, [H]elp, [B]ack:
  5. After you have added the Ethernet connections, you have the option to do the following:

    • Enter the letter e to add an Ethernet connection on another node.

    • Enter the letter d to remove an Ethernet connection.

    • Enter the letter b to return to the previous menu.
