The HP XC System Software Installation Guide provides the following description of the --oldmp option of the discover command:

The --oldmp option is required for HP Integrity systems because their management processors (MPs) have statically set IP addresses and are not configured to use DHCP.

This statement is not entirely true. The --oldmp option is no longer required on those systems that have been upgraded with MP firmware Version 3.15 or newer.
