The following notes are specific to the InfiniBand® interconnect.

No InfiniBand Graphs with Firmware Older Than Version 3.4.2

The HP Graph system status graphs in Nagios require a feature in the InfiniBand software that was first implemented in firmware version 3.4.2.

The switch is ignored by the graph subsystem if older firmware is configured, and the following message is displayed during cluster_config processing:

Executing C52xcgraph gconfigure
Failed to find any Infiniband ports
.
.
.

Follow this procedure to determine the current version of the InfiniBand firmware:

  1. Use the telnet command to access the InfiniBand switch:

    # telnet ir0n00
    Trying 172.20.66.1...
    Connected to IR0N00 (172.20.66.1).
    Escape character is '^]'.

  2. Use the default user name and password to log in:

    ISR9024-08ac login: admin
    Password: your_password
    Welcome to Voltaire Switch ISR9024-08ac

    connecting
  3. Display the firmware version:

    ISR9024-08ac> version show
    ISR 9224 version: 3.4.1
            date: Oct 19 2005 11:52:55 AM
            build Id:331
  4. Exit from the switch connection:

    ISR9024-08ac> exit

If you upgrade the InfiniBand software, invoke the /opt/hptc/hpcgraph/sbin/hpcgraph-setup script to add graphs for the switches that have been upgraded.

If the hardware configuration contains more than one InfiniBand switch, and some switches are installed with firmware older than 3.4.2 and some switches are installed with newer versions of firmware, ports on the newer switches are reported on the graphs. In addition, you can safely invoke the /opt/hptc/hpcgraph/sbin/hpcgraph-setup to add the upgraded ports to the graphs without erasing the historical data for the older switches.
