Getting SD-UX Tools from Media

To update SD-UX, you must first load and run the swgettools script. This script creates the SW-GETTOOLS product, which updates SW-DIST and then removes itself.

Prerequisites

The swgettools script needs a temporary directory with at least 2 MB of free space. If there is not enough space in the temporary directory, swgettools will fail.
By default, swgettools uses the /var/tmp directory. Use the bdf /var/tmp command to determine if /var/tmp has adequate space.
If you do not have 2 MB free in /var/tmp, use the swgettools -t temp_dir_location command-line option to specify a different temporary directory. (See “Options ” below.)

The SW-GETTOOLS product requires enough space to install the following files:

     /var/adm/sw/lbin    (1 MB)
     /var/adm/sw/sbin    (3 MB)
     /var/adm/sw/lib     (6 MB)
     /usr/lbin/sw/bin    (5 MB)

(These files are automatically removed when you reboot.)

Your system needs at least 32 MB of RAM to successfully update the operating system to Version 10.30. (See “Updating the OS ” below.)

Procedure

Load swgettools.
swgettools is shipped in the catalog/SW-GETTOOLS/pfiles directory. Depending on the 10.30 source media, use cp (for CD-ROM), tar (for tape), or rcp (for a software depot on a remote system) to load swgettools onto your system. (HP recommends that you put swgettools into the /var/tmp directory.)
Run swgettools.
The swgettools script creates the SW-GETTOOLS product, which updates SW-DIST.
If you are reinstalling SW-DIST, reboot the system after you have run swgettools.
If you are updating the operating system:
- Use the updated SD-UX commands to complete the update. (See “Updating the OS ” below.)
- Reboot the system.
