HP ppl requires the Xon/Xoff modem setting to be turned off because SLIP and CSLIP do not allow Xon/Xoff. PPP supports the Xon/Xoff modem setting for a PPP connection. However, if pppd is run in SLIP mode, the Xon/Xoff modem setting should be turned off.
