This section presents a brief overview of Superdome console and service features.

Two methods of HP Superdome service and console use are:

  • The Service Management Station (SMS)—An external A-Class workstation connected to an HP Superdome complex.

The SMS provides methods for performing scan tests of Superdome server hardware, upgrading system firmware components, and other service tasks.

  • The Guardian Service Processor (GSP)—The GSP utility boards residing in the rear of an HP Superdome cabinet.

The GSP provides partition consoles, service and management commands, access to various logs, and partition "Virtual Front Panel" access.

Logging in to the Guardian Service Processor (GSP) for a system is the primary method for accessing HP Superdome service commands, logs, and consoles.

See Chapter 2 “Superdome Console and Service Interface” for details on service and console features, accounts, and restrictions.

The Service Management Station is provided primarily for HP-certified service and support personnel. For this reason, it is not discussed in detail in this book.
