HP/PAK 7.0 is an upgrade of HP/PAK 6.0. It contains the tools XPS and Puma. Puma combines and extends the capabilities of DPAT and HPC, which were shipped with HP/PAK 6.0.

XPS is unchanged in this release, except for the addition of a quit command bound to q and Q. The following list summarizes the differences between Puma in HP/PAK 7.0 and the HP/PAK 6.0 tools that it replaces.

  • A new and easier to use graphical user interface that combines the features of DPAT and HPC into a single tool.

  • Display of performance data in attractive and comprehensible graphical formats as well as in conventional tabular (ASCII) format.

  • Collection of additional performance metrics, including: time spent in user space ("user cycles"), time spent in system space ("system cycles"), major and minor page faults, socket messages sent and received, signals received, files open, page swaps, and bytes of I/O.

  • Display of multiple metrics for comparative purposes.

  • Pan/zoom capability to scan across or focus in on a particular slice of an application's execution.

  • Click-back from pan/zoom and call tree analysis displays to source code.

  • Collection and analysis of performance metrics from CMA threaded programs.

  • An extensive, hypertext-based online help system.
