Understanding Operating Modes

There are two operating modes in HP Easytime/iX:

user mode
system administrator mode

When you start HP Easytime/iX, you are automatically in user mode. In this mode, some tasks are not available (shaded). Usually, shaded tasks require system administrator access.

To set the system administrator password

A password is required when changing to system administrator mode. If you are the system administrator, you set the system administrator password the first time that you change to system administrator mode.

Log on as MANAGER.SYS.
Start HP Easytime/iX.
From the Main menu, press A for Switch to System Administrator.
Type the system administrator password, and press Return.
The password must begin with a letter and can contain eight alphanumeric characters. For security reasons, each character that you type is displayed as an asterisk (*)
Type the password again for verification.
Press F5 {{OK}} to set the system administrator password.

To change to system administrator mode

You must be in system administrator mode to perform every HP Easytime/iX task and to manage all files, jobs, and sessions on the system.

From the Main menu, press A for Switch to System Administrator.
Type the system administrator password.
The password must begin with a letter and can contain eight alphanumeric characters. For security reasons, each character that you type is displayed as an asterisk (*).
Press F5 {{OK}} to change to system administrator mode.

To change to user mode

If you are in user mode, you can manage only your own files, jobs, and sessions.

From the Main menu, press U for Switch to User.
No passwords are required when changing to user mode.

To change the system administrator password

For security reasons, it is a good idea to change the system administrator password on a regular basis. Be sure not to use a word that is easy to identify, such as your own name. This is a system administrator task.

Change to system administrator mode.
From the Main menu, press W for Change Administrator Password.
Type the new password, and press Return.
The password must begin with a letter and can contain eight alphanumeric characters. For security reasons, each character that you type is displayed as an asterisk (*)
Type the new password again for verification.
Press F5 {{OK}} to change the password.
