This manual is a complete reference description of the HP Fortran 90 compiler. HP Fortran 90 is fully compliant with ISO/IEC 1539:1991, hereafter referred to as "the Fortran 90 Standard" or simply as "the Standard". HP Fortran 90 also includes a number of extensions to the Standard, as well as compile-line options that allow you to override the default actions of the compiler. This manual describes the standard features, the extensions and the compile-line options.

The rest of this chapter briefly summarizes the standard features of Fortran 90 that are not found in FORTRAN 77. It is chiefly of interest to the user who is familiar with FORTRAN 77 but new to Fortran 90. Users who are already familiar with Fortran 90 may want to turn to Appendix A, which lists all of the HP extensions and refers to other parts of this manual, where the extensions are more fully described. For a full description of the compile-line options, see Chapter 13.
