Audience

This manual is written for experienced Fortran 90 programmers who are interested in writing or porting HP Fortran 90 applications on HP-UX.

Manual scope

This manual is a language reference for HP Fortran 90. It describes HP Fortran 90 features and requirements.

Related documentation

Fortran 90 is defined in ISO/IEC 1539:1991, the International Fortran Standard. This document (hereafter referred to as the "Standard") is the definition of standard Fortran 90.

Information on HP-UX programming tools is available in the following online guides through the HP Help System:

  • HP DDE Debugger Online User's Guide

  • HP-UX Linker and Libraries Online User Guide

The following hardcopy documents may be of interest to HP Fortran 90 application developers:

  • HP Fortran 90 1.0 Release Notes (5965-4312) provides extensive usage information, including how to compile and link, suggestions and tools for migrating to HP Fortran 90, and how to call C and HP-UX routines from HP Fortran 90. For the online version of this document, see:

    /opt/fortran90/newconfig/RelNotes/Fortran90.1.0
  • HP-UX Reference (B2355-90120) provides detailed information for HP-UX commands, system calls to the kernel, standard and nonstandard library routines, file formats, and device drivers.

  • HP-UX Floating-Point Guide (B3906-90004) describes how floating-point arithmetic is implemented on HP 9000 Series 700/800 systems and discusses how floating-point behavior affects the programmer. This book provides information useful to any programmer writing or porting floating-point-intensive programs.

  • Programming on HP-UX (B2355-90653) includes information about linking programs, creating and managing user libraries, and other programming tasks that interact with the HP-UX operating system.

  • The HP FORTRAN/9000 Programmer's Reference (B3906-90002) and HP FORTRAN/9000 Programmer's Guide (B3906-90001) describe the HP FORTRAN 77 programming language on HP-UX.

  • The HP PA-RISC Compiler Optimization Technology White Paper (5964-9846E) provides detailed information about the optimizations performed by HP optimizing compilers. For the online version of this document (in PostScript format), see:

    /opt/langtools/newconfig/white_papers/optimize.ps
  • The HP DDE Debugger User's Guide (B3476-90015) describes the HP Distributed Debugging Environment (HP DDE) debugger. The HP PAK Performance Analysis Tools User's Guide (B3476-90016) describes the HP-UX performance analysis tools.
