This procedure establishes a connection to a host machine from the current Storage Administrator session. A Storage Administrator client session can provide simultaneous access to multiple host machines.

To connect to a host

  1. Choose File > Connect (menu) or Host Connect (Command Launcher).

  2. Complete the Connect to Host dialog box as follows:

    Server Host:

Type the name of the machine to be administered. Both the Volume Manager and the Storage Administrator server must be running on this machine.

    User Name:

Type your login name. Only users with appropriate privileges can run the Storage Administrator on the specified machine.

    Password:

Type your password for the machine to be administered.

    Options

To use the specified user and password as default settings for any future host connections from this Storage Administrator client session, select Default User.

When you have provided all necessary information in the dialog box, click OK. The new host appears in the object tree in the main window.

    Notes:

    • This task requires a host machine name, user name, and password.

    • Both the Volume Manager and the Volume Manager Storage Administrator server must be running on the machine to be administered.

    • Only users with appropriate privileges can run the Volume Manager Storage Administrator.

    • Entries for the user name and password must exist in the password file or corresponding NIS (Network Information Name Service) table on the machine to be administered.

    • The user name (or the user's group ID) must be included in the vrtsadm group entry in the group file or NIS group table on the machine to be administered.
