iCOD System Elements

iCOD System Hardware

An iCOD system’s hardware is generally made up of the following components:

  • Cell boards

  • Processors

  • Memory

Every iCOD system contains a combination of the above components that are licensed (and available for activation) and unlicensed (iCOD).

iCOD Software

The iCOD software provides the means to:

  • Increase or decrease (load balance) system processing capacity (icod_modify command)

  • View status and configuration of the system components (icod_stat command)

  • Administer system identification and notification information (icod_modify command)

  • Send system asset reports, through encrypted e-mail, to HP (icodd daemon)

  • Send configuration change notification, through encrypted e-mail, to the specified system-contact

  • Monitor and report system compliance (icodd daemon)

See the Appendix C “iCOD Manpages” for details of these iCOD commands.

iCOD Portal

The iCOD portal is located at the HP web site:

http://www.hp.com/go/icod/portal

After an iCOD component is purchased, HP sends you a letter containing instructions on how to obtain a right-to-use (RTU) codeword from the iCOD portal.

iCOD Audit Application

The iCOD audit application monitors temporary capacity (TiCOD) compliance on iCOD systems and notifies customers if an iCOD system is out of compliance. The icodd daemon sends asset reports, as encrypted e-mail messages, to the audit application. The iCOD audit application provides TiCOD compliance information to the iCOD database.

iCOD Database

The iCOD database is a repository that tracks iCOD system compliance and provides the information for codeword generation.

Other System Management Commands

Other system management commands (for example, parCLI and parMgr) provide an interface to modify system configuration which affects license use and iCOD compliance.
