As previously mentioned, an iCOD system contains a specified amount of activated processing capacity (cells, processors, and memory) and a specified amount of deactivated processing capacity. The deactivated processing capacity is made up of iCOD components, which can be inactive processors and/or inactive cell boards and memory.

Licensing an iCOD Component

iCOD components must be licensed prior to activation. A fully licensed component is one that is licensed with HP (that is, a license fee has been paid and a right-to-use (RTU) codeword has been applied).

Increasing Processing Capacity

When the processing demand significantly changes, you can perform the following procedure to increase your iCOD systems processing capacity:

  1. License iCOD component — this is accomplished by sending a purchase order (P/O) to HP for a RTU license codeword. Soon after your P/O is received by HP, you should receive a letter from HP that contains information about retrieving the RTU codeword from the iCOD web portal.

  2. Acquire iCOD component’s RTU codeword from the iCOD web portal — this is accomplished by retrieving the RTU codeword from the HP web site http://www.hp.com/go/icod/portal

  3. Apply iCOD component’s RTU codeword — this is accomplished by using the icod_modify -C command/option (note the -C option is uppercase) on any partition in the complex

  4. Activate iCOD component — depending on the type of iCOD component, this is accomplished as follows:

    1. Activate an iCOD processor by using the icod_modify -a command/option

    2. Activate an iCOD cell board by using the parmodify or parmgr command. See “Activation of an iCOD Cell Board” for details on activation of iCOD cell boards (and memory).
