Configuring
a Partition to Utilize TiCOD |
 |
If you are using (or planning to use) TiCOD on partitions
running HP-UX, e-mail connectivity to HP is required.
To utilize TiCOD, configure the partition by performing the
following procedure:
The partition must
be network-accessible to mail servers that are outside of your company’s
firewall. For details on diagnosing e-mail connectivity to HP, see “Diagnosing
E-mail Configuration”.
Configure the system-contact’s
e-mail address for the partition — this is accomplished
by using the icod_modify -c command/option
Verify the system-contact e-mail
address is set correctly — this is accomplished by using
the icod_stat command
Send an asset report, for the
partition, to HP — this is accomplished by using the icod_notify <reply_address> command (an asset report is also sent to the reply_address)
After Step 4, if your partition’s e-mail is correctly configured
to send mail to HP and the asset report is received, HP responds
by sending a confirmation e-mail message to the reply_address. Receipt
of the confirmation e-mail message verifies that e-mail communication
to HP is established.
Licensing
TiCOD |
 |
To add TiCOD to a system that contains iCOD processors, follow
this procedure:
Order the desired
amount of TiCOD for your type of server by submitting a purchase
order to HP. Be sure to specify the system serial number, which
is required for orders of TiCOD on installed base systems.
After you purchase an amount of TiCOD, HP sends you
a letter that contains details on how to acquire a TiCOD codeword
license and apply it to the system that will utilize TiCOD.
Acquire the TiCOD codeword from
the HP iCOD portal (http://www.hp.com/go/icod/portal)
Apply the TiCOD codeword using
the icod_modify -C command
Example 5-1 Applying
a TiCOD Codeword
/usr/sbin/icod_modify -C vnyqD.qjieC7e.LaLdQGH.4aCNYBp-BQk3w9n.jfDhpvz.LiEB58C.7Q3dca2
The following valid codeword has been applied to the complex:
Temporary Capacity Codeword
30 days 0 hours 0 minutes of temporary capacity
Execute the icod_stat(1M) command to see the results of the application of this codeword.
Utilizing
TiCOD |
 |
To use TiCOD in a system that contains iCOD processors, and
has had the TiCOD RTU codeword applied, follow this procedure:
In the following TiCOD activation example, two processors
are currently active in the partition. You desire to activate a
third processor, but there is not a licensed processor available
for activation. Because TiCOD is available on the system, you can
activate a third processor with it.
Example 5-2 Activating
an iCOD Processor with TiCOD
/usr/sbin/icod_modify -t -a 1
3 processors are now active, and 3 processors are specified to be active after the next reboot.

 |
 | NOTE: TiCOD cannot be used to activate iCOD processors in
iCOD cell boards. |

Tracking
the Usage of TiCOD |
 |
The icod_stat command provides the following TiCOD information:
Amount of TiCOD
remaining (in days, hours, and minutes)
Number of processors using
TiCOD — this is the number of active processors that are
not licensed
Projected TiCOD expiration
date and time — this is based on the current TiCOD consumption
rate
You can find this information in the Global iCOD
Information section from the icod_stat command’s output.
Here is an example of TiCOD information:
Example 5-3 Viewing
TiCOD Information from icod_stat Command Output
Global iCOD Information

iCOD cells: 0
Actual inactive cells: 0
iCOD processors: 2
Actual inactive processors: 1
iCOD Memory: 0.0 GB
Actual inactive Memory: 0.0 GB
Temporary capacity available: 10 days, 1 hours, 40 minutes
Processors using temporary capacity: 1
Projected temporary capacity expiration: 06/03/03 12:30:00
In the above example, only the Global iCOD Information section
from the icod_stat command’s output is shown.
TiCOD Expiration Reminder
The iCOD software calculates when the TiCOD balance will expire, based
on the current consumption rate. When the TiCOD balance reaches
a residual of 5 days or less, a reminder e-mail message is automatically
sent to the system-contact, if specified, and root.
Here is an example of a TiCOD expiration reminder e-mail message:
Example 5-4 iCOD
Temporary Capacity (TiCOD) Expiration Reminder
To: root@par1.yourorg.com
Subject: Temporary Capacity Expiration Reminder
This message is being sent to remind you that your iCOD system (containing
the partition, krmt10b) has 3 processors currently consuming temporary
capacity (TiCOD) and that the temporary capacity balance at the current consumption rate is projected to expire on or around:
05/31/03 16:00:00
You can view the current temporary capacity balance and consumption rate,
by using the icod_stat command.
Before the temporary capacity balance runs out, you must perform one of the following steps:
1. Purchase and apply additional temporary capacity.
2. Deactivate processors until the number of inactive processors in
the system matches the expected number of iCOD processors reported
by icod_stat.
3. Purchase the number of processors currently consuming temporary
capacity and apply the Right-to-Use licenses to the system so that they
can be permanently activated.
See the iCOD User's Guide at /usr/share/doc/icodUserGuide.pdf for more information.
