Overview

iCOD Cell Board offers you a way to have additional (inactive) cell board capacity in your iCOD system for growing business needs. When the need arises, iCOD cell boards, which contain memory and processors, can be licensed for activation and use.

An iCOD cell board is configured at HP manufacturing already assigned to a nPartition (hard partition) with its use-on-next-boot flag set to “n” (no), so it does not participate in the boot of the nPartition.

After an iCOD cell board is licensed, including all of the memory on the cell board and at least one processor (or an available processor license exists in the complex), the cell board is available for activation and participation in the boot of the nPartition. This is controlled by setting the use-on-next-boot flag to “y” (yes) with the parmodify command and rebooting the nPartition.

NOTE: If a cell board is not fully licensed, the iCOD software prevents it from being configured to participate (become active) in the boot of a nPartition.

Any cell board, whether licensed or not, can be assigned to a nPartition with the use-on-next-boot flag set to “n” (no).

Because an active cell board must have a minimum of one active processor, prior to activation of an iCOD cell board, one of the following must be true:

  • An unused/unclaimed processor license is available in the complex

  • A processor on the iCOD cell board is licensed (by the application of a right-to-use (RTU) codeword)

After an iCOD cell board has been activated, all of the iCOD processors on the cell board are available for licensing. You can activate an iCOD processor after you have licensed it.

As part of the licensing process, you should submit a purchase order to HP to purchase the cell board, memory, and any processors you wish to activate.

See “Assigning a Cell to a Partition” and “Unassigning a Cell from a Partition” for information on assigning and unassigning a cell board to a nPartition.

IMPORTANT: An active cell board must have a minimum of one active processor.

Check with your HP sales representative for availability of the iCOD Cell Board product.
