Ximian GNOME 1.4 for HP-UX is a free product that can be downloaded directly from HP. Four separate product depots are available for download. It is not necessary to install all four depots. Most users only need to install either:
B6852BA+B6848BA-r2-PA_11.X.depot
for PA-RISC systems; or for Itanium®-based[1]:
B6852BA+B6848BA-r1-IPF_11.X.depot
Each of these depots includes both the Ximian GNOME desktop and the GTK+ libraries. | | |
Each of the four product depots is available in two versions, one for PA-RISC systems (with name ending in PA_11.X.depot), and one for Itanium®-based systems (with name ending in IPF_11.X.depot). The GTK+ libraries are also provided as a stand-alone depot. This depot provides the files needed to run Netscape 6.x (and later) browsers, as well as Mozilla 1.x. It is not necessary to install the GNOME desktop bundle to run those applications. If you want to be able to develop your own GNOME applications, you should also install the Development Kit. You only need to install the GNOME source code if you want to recompile Ximian GNOME for HP-UX, or examine its internal operation. The tables above show the current version of each product bundle. If you have installed an older version, you may want to download and install the newer version. To determine which version you have currently installed, use swlist(1M). For example:
swlist -l bundle B6852BA
The original Ximian GNOME 1.4 for HP-UX release contained an issue regarding a race condition between multiple processes using the same pipe for signaling. This created the possibilty that the gdm process could get stuck and not start the login screen. The following patch depots deliver a correct gdm for PA-RISC and Itanium®-based systems respectively. |
