Attach the 8-pin RJ-45 plug on your twisted-pair cable into
the 10 Mbit/s or 100 Mbit/s connector on the card as appropriate
for your network type.
Push the plug into the connector until the plug clicks into
place. Note that the LEDs are ON or OFF for normal 10 Mbit/s or
100 Mbit/s operation as shown on the illustration on the HP 9000
EISA 100VG-AnyLAN Quick Installation.
The 10/100VG card automatically detects which connector (10-Mbit/s
or 100-Mbits) is being used. Only one speed (connector) can be used
at a time. You just have to connect a viable network to the card.
Attach the other end of the LAN cable to the appropriate
hub (or into a wall jack that is connected to a hub).
To upgrade from a 10-Mbit/s network to a 100-Mbit/s network,
or vice versa, move the cable from the one RJ-45 connector to the
other and ensure the cable is connected to a compatible hub.
If you move the cable, then you should reset the card.
Power up the system to complete the process.
The 10/100VG card will run a self-test automatically. Any
error messages will appear on the terminal display or system console.
When
the system is up and running, log in as root and execute the dmesg
command to verify the installation of the 10/100VG card.
The following message should appear:
Execute ioscan -f to make sure
the hardware path and driver are listed.
The ioscan command scans the system hardware
and displays output similar to the following.
ioscan -f Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description ================================================================== lan 0 2/0/2 lan3 CLAIMED INTERFACE Built-in LAN lan 0 4/0/1 vglan0 CLAIMED INTERFACE EISA card HWP1990 |
The driver for the 100VG-AnyLAN product is vglan0.
Proceed to "Step 7, Configure the 100VG-AnyLAN LInk"
to configure the card.

 | NOTE: For HP 9000 EISA systems, the hardware path is in the
format, x/z/y. For 100VG-AnyLAN/9000, x is always 4 indicating the
card is an EISA card, z is always 0, and y is the slot number where
the card is installed. For instance, 4/0/1 indicates an EISA card
in slot number 1. |
