Log in as root and do the following: At the HP-UX prompt, type: sam Double click Networking and Communications
at the SAM main window. Double click Network Interface Cards
at the Networking and Communications window. Highlight the 10/100VG interface card that you want
to configure from the object list. If the card is not displayed,
then go to Step 4 and check that your hardware has been properly
installed.  |  |  |  |  | NOTE: The term 100VG on the display indicates that a 10/100VG
card is present. To determine the speed of the 10/100VG card you
must run lanadmin and reference the link speed
at the LAN Interface Status Display or check the 10 and 100 Mbps
LEDs on the 10/100VG card edge connector. |  |  |  |  |
The SAM object list always shows the name of the built-in
LAN (IEEE802.3/Ethernet) as lan0 and the first
networking card in an EISA slot as lan1. The
networking cards installed in other slots are named sequentially
(lan2, lan3, etc.), according to the order
of the occupied slots. Verify that the hardware path is correct for your
10/100VG card. The right-most number of the hardware path should match the
backplane slot number of the 10/100VG card. For example, if the
hardware path is 4/0/1, then the 10/100VG card should be in slot
1. Choose Configure
from the "Actions" menu to open the Configure
LAN Card window. Enter the
information about the 10/100VG card. To do so, press the Tab key to move through the
data entry fields.  |  |  |  |  | NOTE: SAM displays the Card
Name, Hardware Path, and Station Address fields with
the appropriate values. These fields cannot be modified. |  |  |  |  |
Verify that the card type is one of the following: 100VG IEEE 8023 Ethernet 100VG IEEE8023 100VG Ethernet The default is 100VG Ethernet Enter the Internet address for your 10/100VG card. Upon exiting the field, SAM checks to make sure that the IP/Internet
address you entered is correctly formatted and is not currently
in use. Optionally, chooseAdd Aliases to open the Configure Aliases window,
if you want to assign aliases for the local host. You must complete this step if you have more than one LAN
card installed in your system. You can also modify or remove alias
names for your 10/100VG card on this menu. Activate the OK button to perform the
task and return to the Configure LAN Card window. After returning to the LAN Card window, specify
whether your 10/100VG card will be on a subnetwork. Optionally, enter comments about your 10/100VG card. Optionally, add the following advanced options:
your station address and the Internet broadcast address. Activate
the SAM online help for additional information on these options.
Activate the OK button at
the Configure LAN Card window to enable your 10/100VG card. If the software is correctly configured, SAM displays the
Network Card Configuration object list with the status Enabled
for your 10/100VG card; otherwise, SAM displays an error message.  |  |  |  |  | NOTE: The term 100VG on the display indicates that a 10/100VG

At the Network Card Configuration menu, choose Exitfrom the "File menu." If you have moved or removed any 10/100VG cards from the system,
HP recommends that you verify the IP/Internet address of every card
in the backplane before leaving SAM Use lanscan -v to check the
network interface and the hardware state of the 10/100VG card. The major number for the EISA 10/100VG cards is 176.  |  |  |  |  | NOTE: For HP9000 Series 700 systems, the hardware path is
in the format, x/z/y For 100VG-AnyLAN/9000, x is always 4 indicating
the card is an EISA card, z is always 0, and y is the is the slot
number where the card is installed. For instance, 4/0/1 indicates
