The first step in using a shared directory is seeing which directories and other resources are available to you. To see which shared resources are available to you, the Workstation service must be running, and you must be logged on to the network. For information about starting the Workstation service and logging on, see Chapter 1, "Getting Started with LAN Manager Enhanced."

Once you start the Workstation service and log on to the network, you can use the LAN Manager screen to display a list of the servers you can view. This list includes servers in your workstation domain, your logon domain, and other domains (if any) specified in the LANMAN.INI file. The LANMAN.INI file is an initialization file that determines default settings for workstations on a network.

To view shared directories

  1. In the list of servers on the LAN Manager screen, set the current focus on the server that has shared directories you want to view.

  2. From the View menu, choose Available resources.

The Resources Available at \\computername dialog box appears.

Shared directories are listed as Disk in the Type column.

  3. Choose the Done button.
