Some commands require a password to connect to a shared resource. With LAN Manager Enhanced, there are two ways to supply a password:

  • Type the password with the command. For example, to provide the password petunia while assigning LPT1 to the LISTS shared directory on the \\ADMIN server, type:

    net use lpt1: \\admin\lists petunia
  • Type an asterisk (*) instead of the password. When you type an asterisk instead of a password, LAN Manager Enhanced prompts you for the password. For example, type:

    net use lpt1: \\admin\lists *

LAN Manager Enhanced then displays this prompt:

    Type the password for \\ADMIN\LISTS:

When you type the password at this prompt, the letters are not displayed. This keeps the password confidential.
