Microsoft Network Client Version 2.2: User's Guide for MS-DOS Clients > Chapter 7 Basic ReferenceUsing the /Yes and /No Options |
|
Many LAN Manager Basic commands require confirmation to complete a task. To expedite this confirmation, you can append the /yes or /no option to the command. The /yes and /no options can be abbreviated /y and /n. For example, the net logon command logs you on to the network. But when another user is already logged on at the workstation you are using, you must log off that user before you can log on. To log on at a workstation at which another user is also logged on (your username is chrisj and your password is daffodil), type: net logon chrisj daffodil Be careful that no one sees your password. So that no one sees your password as you type, you can use an asterisk (*) instead of your password. In this example you would type: net logon chrisj * If you use the asterisk, you will be prompted for your password. The password does not appear on the screen when you type it in response to the prompt. LAN Manager Basic returns a series of prompts asking you to confirm logging off the current user and canceling the workstation's existing connections. You must respond to each prompt by typing y or pressing ENTER before you can proceed with the logon. To log on without prompts, add the /y option to the net logon command. Type: net logon chrisj daffodil /y Remember, you can protect your password by substituting an asterisk (*). In this example, you would type: net logon chrisj * /y The only prompt you will receive will be the prompt for your password. |
