HP 9000 Networking: Advanced Server/9000 Concepts and Planning Guide > Chapter 6 Setting Up Print ServersAdding a Printer (Shared Printer Queue) |
|
To add a printer to an Advanced Server, do the following tasks:
Note that Windows NT 4.0 cannot read Windows 95 *.cab files. When asked for Windows 95 printer drivers, you must:- Point to a networked computer's Windows 95 directory that has the driver or- Previously extracted all the Windows 95 drivers from the *.cab files on the source media (assuming it was on CDROM) with the following command: C:\> mkdir c:\temp\win95src C:\> f: (if f: is CD drive) F:\> cd \setup (if \setup is location of *.cab files) F:\SETUP>extract /a /l c:\temp\win95src precopy2.cab *.* F:\SETUP>extract /a /l c:\temp\win95src win95_02.cab *.* Then when asked, point to C:\TEMP\WIN95SRC. Note that not all files extracted are used, and you may wish to extract only the necessary files (once you know what they are) to save space. After you define the general characteristics of your shared printer queue, you are prompted to assign it certain device-specific properties such as fonts, printer memory, and color. The way in which you set properties depends on how you want users to access print devices. If you do not change specific properties, Advanced Server uses the default settings. For more information, see "Planning How Users Access Printers (Shared Printer Queues)" earlier in this chapter. After you create a shared printer queue, it appears in the network-wide printer browse list. Windows NT and Windows 95 clients can connect to printers from this list using the Add Printer Wizard. For more information about sharing printers, see "Sharing a Printer (Shared Printer Queue)" later in this chapter. For information on specifying which hardware platforms and operating systems to support, see "Installing Printer Drivers for Multiple Hardware Platforms" later in this chapter. For information on setting device-specific properties, see "Setting Device- Specific Properties" later in this chapter. For information on installing a print driver for an unsupported printer, see "Installing a Printer Driver for an Unsupported Printer" later in this chapter. |
