If this is a new installation of NetWare 9000 and if you have no other NetWare servers (native NetWare or other NetWare for UNIX servers) and are only installing one NetWare for the HP 9000 server using one NetWare network (on the LAN link), you can use the default configuration values.

  1. Log into the system as root.

  2. At the HP-UX prompt, type: sam

  3. Double click Networking and Communications at the SAM main window.

  4. Double click NetWare at the Networking and Communications window.

  5. Double click Networking Configuration at the NetWare window.

  6. Modify global parameters. The current status of the following global parameters is displayed on the top of the screen: NetWare Server Name, Internal IPX Network number, NVT2 Service, Start Transport at Boot, and NPS Network Management.

If you wish to modify a global parameter(s), choose Set Global Networking Parameters from the "Actions" menu to open the Set Global Networking Parameters window.

    1. Enter the information about the status field(s). To do so, press the Tab key to move through the data entry fields.

    2. Add the name of your NetWare Server. The default is the system host name.

    3. Add the number of the IPX Internal Network number. The default is the system IP address.

    4. Optionally, enable/disable NVT2 Services.

    5. Optionally, enable/disable Start Transport at Boot.

    6. Optionally, enable/disable NPS Network Management.

    7. Activate the OK button to perform the task(s) and return to the Networking Configuration Window.

  7. Add a Network. Choose Add IPX Network from the "Actions" menu.

    1. Enter the information about the network. To do so, press the Tab key to move through the data entry fields.

    2. Select the LAN card from the list of Host Interface names.

      1. The NetWare autodiscovery feature will list the IPX networks to which you can connect.

      2. Select the IPX network you want from the list.

    3. Select the Frame Type of your network.

    4. Enter the external Network Address of your network.

    5. Optionally, enable/disable SAP Reply to Get Nearest Server.

    6. Activate the OK button to perform the task(s) and return to the Networking Configuration Window.

  8. Complete the File Server Worksheet (from chapter 3) noting the default values that you used. You will need this information for future network updates and troubleshooting.

  9. After you have updated your configuration and completed the worksheet, return to the NetWare menu in SAM.

  10. Proceed to the next section, "Step 5: Configure NetWare 4.1 Services."
