Before you update to NetWare 4.1, do the following:

  1. Back up the entire system (NetWare should be down for a system backup). In case of an unanticipated emergency during the migration to 4.1, such as the power going out, be sure to have a plan to restore information if such difficulties should occur.

  2. Verify that you have the software and hardware required for the product:

    • HP 9000 workstation family (Series 700) system or server family (Series 800) system.

    • Operating system: HP-UX 10.10 or 10.20.

    • Your HP-UX system must be configured to support long file names in order to use NetWare 9000.

    • Minimum of 32 megabytes of RAM.

    • Disk drive with at least 128 megabytes of free space.

    • A LAN link such as LAN/9000 or Token Ring/9000

    • For token ring networks, the Token Ring/9000 product must be installed and configured. For series 800, use product number J2166A. For series 700, use product number J2165A. For non-EISA model 712, use product number A4011B.

    • DOS workstation that can be set up as NetWare client. Minimum requirements: 640 KB memory, DOS 3.0 or greater, high-density floppy diskette drive (3.5 inch).

    • If the NetWare client PCs are on a token ring segment, the NetWare clients must be configured to support token ring.

  3. Go to the next section, "Step 2: Run MIGRATE.EXE."
