Figure 2-1 below provides an overview of the migration paths for systems with previous versions of NetWare, SPX/IPX, or HP-UX. Identity your current NetWare version and HP-UX system on the diagram and then follow the appropriate path to upgrade to NetWare 4.10 on HP-UX 10.10. Shortcuts are not allowed.

For detailed instructions on how to use the swinstall utility, refer to chapter 1, "Step 2: Install NetWare 4.1 on a New Server."

Figure 2-1 Title not available (Step 3: Upgrade Your System)

Path A: Migrating NetWare 3.11 on HP-UX 9.04 to NetWare 3.12 on HP-UX 10.01

  1. Verify that your version of NetWare 3.11 is A.11.04 or higher. To do so, enter the command:

    strings /usr/netware/bin/netware | grep "A\.[0-9]"

If the version is earlier than A.11.04, contact your HP support representative.

  2. Record your NetWare 3.11 codeword. This is an important precaution if you later need to back out your system from NetWare 4.10 to NetWare 3.12. Refer to "Backout Strategy" for further details. To query your system for the NetWare 3.11 codeword, enter the command:

    /usr/netware/bin/ins_codeword -v

  3. Insert the 10.01 CD and install 10.01 Check that Match What Target Has is selected in swinstall. For detailed instructions on how to use the swinstall utility, refer to chapter 1, "Step 2: Install NetWare 4.1 on a New Server."

Path B: Migrating NetWare 3.12 on HP-UX 9.0x to NetWare 3.12 on HP-UX 10.01

  1. Record your NetWare 3.12 codeword. This is an important precaution if you later need to back out your system from NetWare 4.10 to NetWare 3.12. Refer to "Backout Strategy" for further details. To query your system for the NetWare 3.12 codeword, enter the command:

    /usr/netware/bin/nw_lic_install

  2. Insert the 10.01 CD and install 10.01. Check that Match What Target Has is selected in swinstall. For detailed instructions on how to use the swinstall utility, refer to chapter 1, "Step 2: Install NetWare 4.1 on a New Server."

Path C: Migrating NetWare 3.12 on HP-UX10.01 to NetWare 3.12 on HP-UX 10.10 or 10.20.

  1. Record your NetWare 3.12 codeword. If you recorded your NetWare codeword in a previous step, go to step 2. This is an important precaution if you later need to back out your system from NetWare 4.10 to NetWare 3.12. Refer to "Backout Strategy" for further details. To query your system for the NetWare 3.12 codeword, enter the command:

    /usr/netware/bin/nw_lic_install

  2. Insert the 10.10 or 10.20 CD and install 10.10 or 10.20. Check that Match What Target Has is selected in swinstall. For detailed instructions on how to use the swinstall utility, refer to chapter 1, "Step 2: Install NetWare 4.1 on a New Server."

Path D: Migrating the NetWare SPXII/IPX Stack-only Product on HP-UX 10.01 to HP-UX 10.10 or 10.20

Insert the 10.01 CD and install 10.10. Check that Match What Target Has is selected in swinstall. For detailed instructions on how to use the swinstall utility, refer to chapter 1, "Step 2: Install NetWare 4.1 on a New Server."

Path E: Installing NetWare 4.10 on a HP-UX 10.10 System.

CAUTION: Your system is now at the state to which it will be returned ("backed out") if you decide to remove NetWare 4.10 from your system. Therefore all NetWare data now on the system must be backed up. Refer to "Backout Strategy" at the end of this chapter for additional information on this procedure.
  1. If you started the upgrade procedure with NetWare on HP-UX 9.0x, back up the entire contents of the directories /etc/opt/netware and /var/opt/netware as well as all NetWare volumes not contained in these directories. This will preserve your inodes, trustee, bindery, and configuration files which now have been migrated to the 3.12 format, and the NetWare data on your server.

  2. If you started with NetWare on HP-UX 10.x, the appropriate backup was performed earlier in this chapter " Step 1: Before You Upgrade." You will need the following if you decide to back out:

All files and subdirectories in the /etc/opt/netware and /var/opt/netware directories.

All NetWare volumes not contained in the /etc/opt/netware and /var/opt/netware directories.

  3. If you started with the SPXII/IPX Stack-only product, the appropriate backup was performed in "Step 1, Before You Upgrade." If you decide to backout, you will need the entire contents of the directory /etc/opt/netware. This directory consists of a small number of configuration files.

  4. Insert the 10.10 or 10.20 CD and install NetWare 4.10 using swinstall. For detailed instructions on how to use the swinstall utility, refer to chapter 1, "Step 2: Install NetWare 4.1 on a New Server."

  5. Continue to "Step 4: Upgrade NetWare 3.12 Codeword to 4.1."
