After installing the NetWare 9000 product, pull out a copy of the File Server Worksheet from this guide. A copy of the worksheet is included in this chapter. An additional copy is in Appendix A, "Extra Worksheets," at the end of this guide. If you want to change any of the configured items listed on the File Server Worksheet, follow the instructions below. You can create a new name for the NetWare file server from 2 to 47 characters long. Enter the new name on the File Server Worksheet. The file server name must be different than any other server accessible over the LAN. To verify you have selected a unique name, check the names of other servers on your LAN:
The internal network number is the IP address of the host. The internal network number is a value up to eight hexadecimal numbers in length. This parameter specifies the unique network number for the internal network. Enter a string representing a hexadecimal number in the range of 0x0 - 0xF, non-inclusive (0x00000001 - 0xFFFFFFFE). If you use a number less than eight numbers in length, include the leading zeroes (for example, 0x00001111). The internal network number must be different than any other NetWare file servers on the LAN (native NetWare or other NetWare for UNIX servers). To verify that this number does not conflict with existing file servers:
Network interface and unit number associated with a LAN card. The network interface always has the name lan. The unit number is assigned according to the order in which the LAN cards are detected by the IO system. The unit number of the first LAN card may be either 0, if the system was not ordered with the 802.3 built-in card, or 1. The default frame type is Ethernet 802.2 (Ethernet_802.2). For a LAN network you can use Ethernet 802.3, Ethernet II, Ethernet 802.2 or Ethernet_SNAP frame type. For a token ring (or FDDI) network you use the token ring (TOKEN_RING) frame type. Write in the frame type you want in the blank box next to Frame Type on the File Server Worksheet. Native Novell NetWare 3.12 and 4.x servers and Novell's version 1.1 and later clients default to Ethernet 802.2 frame type. Earlier versions of Novell's Native NetWare servers and clients defaulted to Ethernet 802.3. Check the configuration of your other NetWare file servers and clients. If you need to change NetWare for the HP 9000 to Ethernet II, Ethernet 802.3, or Ethernet_SNAP write the change on the File Server Worksheet. The frame type used on the server must match the frame type of the clients. For NetWare VLM clients, review the NET.CFG file for configured frame types. Earlier clients require using a utility to change the frame type (see Chapter 8, "Managing NetWare"). If you want to change other NetWare/9000 servers to use Ethernet II, refer to Chapter 8, "Managing NetWare" which describes how to change NetWare/9000 servers and the client shells to support Ethernet II. The external network number can be up to eight hexadecimal numbers in length. If you have other NetWare file servers and want the NetWare 9000 file server on the same LAN, make sure that all the NetWare file servers have the same external network number. E-mail network addresses are used by NetWare to separate networks (cabling systems). This network address is also assigned to all clients on the file server's network. To check your existing NetWare network, from a NetWare client, log on to your existing NetWare server and enter the NetWare command: F:> nlist server Your login name is marked with an asterisk (*). The external network number is listed by your login name in the field labelled Network. If you need to change the external network number to match other file servers you want to access, enter the new number on the File Server Worksheet. |
