The following section shows some sample network configurations you can create by modifying the default network using SAM.

Change Frame Type and Server Name

  1. Log into the system as root.

  2. At the HP-UX prompt, type: sam

  3. Double click Networking and Communications at the SAM main window.

  4. Double click NetWare at the Networking and Communications window.

  5. Double click Networking Configuration at the NetWare window

  6. Choose Set Global Networking Parameters from the "Actions" menu.

    1. Make your configuration changes as noted in the worksheet matrix below.

    2. Activate the OK button to perform the task(s) and return to the Transport Configuration Window.

  7. Complete the File Server Worksheet in this chapter noting the values that you used. You will need this information for future network updates and troubleshooting.

  8. Exit SAM. Go to the section, "Activate Configuration Changes" in this chapter.

Enter the number from your File Server Worksheet

Change Network to Token Ring

This example assumes you have only a token ring network, and want to change the default NetWare network to support token ring. You must also change the frame type to token ring.

  1. Log into the system as root.

  2. At the HP-UX prompt, type: sam

  3. Double click Networking and Communications at the SAM main window.

  4. Double click NetWare at the Networking and Communications window.

  5. Double click Networking Configuration at the Netware window to go to Transport Configuration.

  6. Choose Add or Modify from the "Actions" menu.

      TOKEN_RING

External Network Number: (up to eight hexadecimal numbers)

      0000112E (Example value. No default)

    2. Activate the OK button to perform the task(s) and return to the Transport Configuration Window.

  7. Complete the File Server Worksheet in this chapter and the values that you used. You will need this information for future network updates and troubleshooting.

  8. Exit SAM. Go to the section, "Activate Configuration Changes" in this chapter.

Add Another NetWare Network

If you want NetWare to use additional LAN cards or multiple frame types on your system, you must configure another network for NetWare 9000 using the SAM "Add IPX Network" function. See Chapter 8, "Managing NetWare" for these procedures. For each additional network you want to configure, make a copy of the second page of the File Server Worksheet to note your configuration items.

Activate Configuration Changes

To activate configuration changes, NetWare must be stopped (if running), and restarted as described in Chapter 1, "Step 6: Start NetWare 4.1."
