Obtaining Your License Codeword

After you have installed NetWare 4.1 you must obtain and install your license codeword in order to use NetWare.




	NOTE: You must get a new codeword if you are updating an existing NetWare version 3.12 for the HP 9000 server to version 4.1.

Before getting started, make sure you have your "NetWare version 4.1 for the HP 9000 Software Certificate" form containing your product's activator key. You should also have your product order number. You can obtain your codeword in one of the following ways:

If you have access to internet electronic mail on the system where NetWare has been installed, follow the instructions: Obtain Codeword via Internet Mail from NetWare.
If you have access to internet electronic mail but NOT on your NetWare 9000 system, follow the instructions: Obtain Codeword via Internet Mail.
If you do not have access to internet electronic mail, you can obtain your codeword via FAX or mail. Follow the instructions: Obtain Codeword by FAX or Mail.

Obtain Codeword via Internet Mail from NetWare Server

If you have access to internet electronic mail from your system where you have installed NetWare 4.1, you can use the nw_lic_install utility to automate obtaining your codeword. The response to your request is completely automated. Contact the HP Response Center for assistance from a support representative.




	NOTE: To use this method, make sure you run the `nw_lic_install` utility on the system where NetWare is installed. The codeword utility automatically retrieves the system ID (runs `uname -i`) which is required to obtain a codeword.

You must have your "NetWare version 4.1 for the HP 9000 Software Certificate" form containing your product's activator key. You must also have your product order number to complete the codeword request.
Log into your system as root.
Run the nw_lic_install utility followed by the activator key from your Software Certificate:
/opt/netware4/bin/nw_lic_install activator_key
Answer the prompt:
You may automatically request your activated codeword with this program via email. Do you wish to do so? (Y/N) : y
If you do not have access to electronic mail (e-mail), follow the instructions: "Obtaining Your Codeword by FAX or Mail."
You are prompted for the following information. Press <Return> after completing each item:
Activator Key: System Id: Order Number: Name: Company: Department: Return e-mail address:
The information you entered is displayed. If correct, enter "y" for yes at the prompt:
Is the above information correct? (Y/N): y

The utility creates a file containing the information needed to obtain the license codeword, and e-mails the information for you. A message similar to the following is displayed:

License request sent. If you do not receive your reply within 24 hours, fill out the var/opt/netware4/license_form file manually, and email it to: netware_license@cup.hp.com. The License file /etc/opt/netware4/licenses is empty.

Obtain Codeword via Internet Mail

If you have access to internet electronic mail, but it is not on the system where you installed NetWare version 4.1 for the HP 9000, you can obtain your codeword as follows:

After installing NetWare, copy the form in file:

/var/opt/netware4/license_form
to a system with e-mail.
To complete the form, you need the following information:
- The activator key from your "NetWare version 4.1 for the HP 9000 Software Certificate" form.
- The System Id for your system. Log on to the system where NetWare is installed. Log on as root and run:
  uname -i
- The order number for your NetWare product, your company, department, phone, and name.
Use an editor on the system (with electronic mail) to complete the following information:
Activator Key: System Id (uname -i): Order Number: Company: Department: Phone: Name:
After you have completed the information on the form, use electronic mail to send the file to the appropriate address below:
netware_license@cup.hp.com

Obtain Codeword by FAX or Mail

To obtain your codeword using FAX or mail:

Follow the instructions on the certificate form "NetWare version 4.1 for the HP 9000 Codeword Software Certificate" which is provided with the product.
You must provide the following information:
- Enter the HP 9000 System ID. Log onto your system as root (where NetWare is installed) and enter the command:
  uname -i
  The system ID number is displayed. Enter the system ID on your certificate.
- Enter your product order number on the certificate.
- Enter your name, phone number, company and department on the certificate.

Obtain your codeword by doing one of the following:

Fax your completed certificate to: Hewlett-Packard Co. License Administration at one of the following numbers:
